The good and kind hearts of our elders are highlighted today. I am grateful for having spent at least some time with my grandparents here and there. One grandmother in particular came to help the household for a few years when I was younger. I’ll be honest and say I don’t remember much about that time, but I’m sure I gained something in just watching her and being around her.
Pink Opal invites you to go into your heart today and feel the warmth and love from those who have helped you in the past, particularly as a child. This could be from parents, grandparents, extended relatives, teachers, coaches, and the like. Feel the love they had and held for you as they helped raise you to be the person you are today. Each of these elders has put their own unique touch and imparted a bit of their own wisdom somewhere inside you. Spend a few moments today to recognize how truly blessed you are to have had their lives come across your own. Recall the lessons you learned and the messages you were told. What among all of that will you pass along in tribute of their love and generosity?
As you continue with your life day to day, remember that who you are is partly the result of those who have come before. As the holidays come up, see if you can spend some time calling them up or visiting them, sharing some of your time with them. All too often, they become neglected once we get busy with our own lives. Organizations like Meals on Wheels help to make sure that this needy population doesn’t get forgotten. After having lived their own full lives, the least we can do is share our respect for them and their journeys.
