And now for something a little bit different.
I’ve taken a much longer hiatus from writing here to take care of a few things. As I’ve alluded to earlier, family was a big part of it. Working on my writing was another. Overall though, I’ve noticed a need to detach for a bit. With all the excitement over the website being cleaned up and getting ready and thinking that that would be enough to get inspired to take the writing up more earnestly… well, I frankly ran out of some steam.
Even a much anticipated “vacation” to Yosemite ended up being a lot more work than relaxation. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my time and appreciated the increased stillness one finds there in winter as opposed to the busy summer months but… I definitely needed to honor my need for even more self-care over everything else.
So that being said, I’d like to share my takeaway with you and ask: do you give yourself ample opportunity to take a moment and listen to what your mind, your body, your spirit needs? I was actually speaking about this very topic a week ago with one of my colleagues and we (semi) jokingly said we should actually schedule reminders into our calendars to see if we’re paying attention to our internal signals. The day after, we checked in with each other at various points throughout the day and it was a refreshing reminder to actually take note of how we were doing in the moment.
How is that relationship that you have with yourself? Are you able to quickly assess how you’re doing each moment and see what needs to be adjusted? Or does it take getting sick, getting into an accident, getting some unexpected news to really grasp how everything ties into the bigger picture? Will you join me in taking that step back from time to time? I could use the extra support and would love to share that experience with you too, if you’re up for it. Drop me a line and let me know.
